Knives and Dummy

So I memorized the Butterfly Knives form awhile back. I must say, it’s the best form after SLT. I thoroughly enjoy it. I like how the shoulders, elbows and hands rotate. I don’t have any knives so I just practice with closed fists. I cannot get anything out of it though. Tom said that there is transfer of mass via the spine through whatever object you are holding (the purpose of the weapons forms). That is too high of a level for me to muster, at this present moment in time.

My Chum Kui and Biu Jee are improving but my Wooden Dummy form requires more exquisite detail. It is more difficult than Biu Jee. I guess that is why GM CST taught that form after BJ. What is difficult about it is the syncing of hand movements with pivoting. Also, it is difficult to keep attention on the spine through this form.

Everything will improve with time. So I will give it just that. There is little rush, merely practice. I have been able to keep my consistency constant. And so I will continue it. As Ip Man once said, “Ignore your art for one day and it will forget you for two.” – source

I have indicated the level of awareness I am able to keep in each form, below:

  1. SLT: 80%
  2. CK:  60%
  3. BJ:   40%
  4. WD: 20%
  5. BK:  25%
  6. LP:   N/A
