Sparring

I don’t understand sparring. I used to advocate it but a recent experience has brought me to my senses. In my fight, my opponent’s movements were a flurry and I kept getting hit in the head. That didn’t feel good at all. I then began to realize that I did not have the prerequisite skill level to be able to fight. And the paradox of this point is that even when I attain that skill level, I will never have to fight.

So, if I am unprepared, I cannot fight. And if I am well prepared, then there is no reason for me to fight. That is how I am currently seeing things.

I don’t understand fights anyhow. How do they prepare you? There are rules and guidelines to follow: no eye gouging, fish hooking, attacking the spine or throat or groin area. Stop when your opponent is down, don’t try and break anything deliberately. These rules are meant to sustain control as they very well should do. It would not be “enjoyable” watching people literally ripping each other apart. The enjoyment – in my opinion – of watching a fight is to see the techniques employed by the fighters to subdue one another.

There will not be enough time in a situation to attack multiple times. Until one is at that very high level, where energy is constantly being replenished, one will become tired as the fight rages on. So, in essence, I am contemplating the use of a few one hit KO’s. You will have only a few chances to attack the opponent. Hence, whenever your limbs come into contact, they should have a profound effect.
